Marc Cucurella issues savage response to Gary Neville over Euro 2024 jibe
After the pundit implied that Mark Cucurella would stop Spain from winning Euro 2024, Cucurella responded angrily. The left-back struggled at Chelsea, and Neville predicted the tournament would be a weak point for Spain and prevent them from “moving forward.” However, in Germany, the 25-year-old played some of the best football of his career, starting all but the final group stage match and providing the winning assist in the championship game that crushed England’s hearts. “We’ve come all the way, Gary,” Cucurella posted on social media shortly after hoisted the trophy. “Thanks for your support.”
Shortly before the final, Cucurella discussed Neville’s comments in an interview with Mundo Deportivo, in which he also promised to die in red if Spain went on to win the cup. “In England, it’s very common, but they were players and they had those experiences. I don’t think it’s necessary to be disrespectful just to get opinions or for people to know him or keep hearing his name,” Cucurella said: “These things happen.
“I think we still have one last step to go and hopefully we can lift that cup. Then it will be our turn to talk.” Cucurella joined Chelsea in the summer of 2022 in a deal worth an initial £56m, plus £7m in add-ons. During his 59 appearances for the club, Cucurella has struggled to live up to that price tag and recently admitted to The Athletic that he had begun working with a psychologist to improve his self-confidence after some tough times at Chelsea.
