Ronald Araujo to undergo surgery, will miss four months for Barcelona
Ronald Araujo, a defender for Barcelona, will have surgery to heal a muscle injury he sustained while competing for Uruguay at the Copa America.
Due to a muscle issue, Araujo was sent back to Barcelona on Monday for additional testing, after which it was decided that surgery was necessary.
As a result of this news, which is devastating to Barcelona and Araujo alike, he is now anticipated to miss the next four months.
Araujo won’t be able to play again until at least mid-November, which will present another challenge for Hansi Flick, the new coach before the new season begins.
Due to their involvement in the Olympics, Eric Garcia and Pau Cobarci will already be absent at the beginning of the new season, so Flick will need to weigh his alternatives.
The German, at least, has some choices. Next season, Michael Fay, Inigo Martinez, Jules Kounde, and Andreas Christensen can all play center back.
Regarding Araujo, the news of his injury should put an end to any speculation about a possible summer exit. Though there have been rumors that he would depart, they are probably going to die down now.
